Dear Westmoreland County Friends,

It goes without saying that these are uncertain times and there is a lot we don’t know.

But here is one thing we do know – the people Westmoreland Community Action serves in Westmoreland County are going to be among the hardest hit as we face the economic challenges that result from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Serving our community, while safeguarding our staff is a key priority for WCA. We already support people with basic needs: energy assistance, food for those experiencing food insecurity, employment search support and this work must continue. We have anticipated and are already seeing an increase in need for these services.

In light of that, if you are able, will you make a gift now of $39 to help?

$39 will go a long way as we modify our programming to both incorporate social distancing and to meet the needs our most vulnerable neighbors are experiencing. $39 will pay for:

  • An emergency food box for one family
  • A consultation visit on employment services
  • A minor emergency repair to a vehicle
  • Supplies needed to help keep the WCA offices clean and sanitized
  • Assistance for utilities not covered under typical energy assistance (e.g., water)

Everyone’s individual situation is different, and each of our clients need our help in their own individual way. In turn, we need your unrestricted support more than ever.

As we did not account for a global pandemic in our budget, we must spend these unplanned dollars to help those most in need now. While we anticipate receiving some additional governmental support in the upcoming months, the true level of current and future need is not yet known.

Your special emergency gift today of $39 will help cover the costs associated with our most critical services, ensuring that people still have a place to turn to for support, and enabling us to be a lifeline for the community.

If you or anyone you know needs help, please visit our resource page for a list of resources that we are constantly updating with current information.

Even though our offices are open, some of our staff are still working some hours remotely. As a result, please call to schedule an appointment before coming to the office if you or someone you know is in need of emergency assistance. Walk-ins may not be able to be accommodated. Our number is 724-834-1260. And our normal hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Be well,

Mandy Welty Zalich
CEO
