Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IRS has extended the 2020 tax filing deadline to July 15, 2020. Tax returns and payments owed are not due until then.

Westmoreland Community Action is setting up safe processes so that we can continue to provide assistance to tax filers in low-income households. This is especially important as the federal government is requiring most people to have a recent tax return in order to receive a stimulus check.

In order to keep clients and staff safe right now, we have suspended our regular in-person VITA free tax preparation services. But we are working diligently to provide viable alternatives such as virtual tax preparation and drop off once the shelter in place order is lifted.

In the mean time, if you still need to file a 2019 tax return, Free File through Turbo Tax is a great option. Get Turbo Tax here.

Before you get started, check out these basic instructions for using Turbo Tax.

Starting January 27, 2020, in partnership with the IRS, our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites will provide FREE income tax return preparation for those making under $55,000…

  1. Taxpayers who have limited or moderate incomes
  2. Senior citizens
  3. Persons with disabilities

In addition, you may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The new maximum credit is $6,557 for a family with three or more children, $5,828 for a family with two children, $3,526 for a family with one child, and $529 if there are no children.

Call 2-1-1 to schedule your appointment! Or call 888-553-5778 if 2-1-1 does not work from your phone.

All tax returns will be completed on-line and filed electronically. This program is funded by the United Way of Southwestern PA.
