Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week

November 11 – 19, 2017 is dedicated to Hunger and Homelessness Awareness.  This week is designated to educate the public, draw attention to the problem of poverty, and build up the base of volunteers and supporters for local anti-poverty agencies. Groups spend this week generating publicity about hunger and homelessness and holding a series of events to engage their communities.  Several Human Service and anti-poverty agencies in Westmoreland County are holding their own events and are listed below.

Sunday, November 12 pm (noon) – kick off
Arrive at 11:45am, Patricia Elliott Rentler’s Law Office, 414 S. Maple Avenue, Greensburg
Feeding the Spirit has been collecting cold weather hats, gloves and scarves.  Community members and volunteers will walk to hang these bagged sets on trees, bridges and other areas in downtown Greensburg for the homeless and those in need to take.

The walk will include hanging the bags, a procession through town and then ending up at Westmoreland Community Action, 226 S. Maple Avenue (across from the YWCA Thrift Shop) for hot dogs and hot chocolate.

Those participating are asked to bring a large tote bag to carry the sets to hang.  Donations will be accepted through Friday, November 10, 2017 at various locations.
