Westmoreland Community Action (WCA) is a non-profit organization that works to connect individuals and families to opportunities and resources throughout the community to improve their quality of life and help to reduce poverty in the community.

Our Head Start program is seeking a full time Family Advocate. The Family Advocate will work with families to assess their needs and assist them in meeting their goals and program objectives. The Family Advocate is responsible for providing assistance to parents in all the component areas and providing assistance to the classroom as scheduled according to the Head Start Performance Standards.


  • Visit and interview families in their homes and in the community to assess their needs and assist them in setting goals.
  • Connects parents with community resources and supports parents in problem solving when they are faced with barriers.
  • Identify the health and safety risk factors of the families and work with families to resolve them.
  • Transports families to parent power hours, workshops, and required health appointments, committee meetings, policy council social service events or to appointments that pertain to the education of the enrolled child.


  • Associate degree in early childhood education, social welfare or related field with a minimum of 4.5 years’ experience working with families and children.
  • Knowledge of computers and ability to enter information on data base.
  • Ability to work independently in order to meet program requirements.
  • Pennsylvania Driver’s license and insurance, which is mandated in the policy manual.
  • Act 33 and 34 Clearances.

Head Start Family Advocate salary is based on experience: $15.34 to $17.56.
